Say No and Act Right
In the first quarter of the year 2019, Caro Favoured Nursery and Primary School which is situated at Ajegunle, Lagos invited The Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation to hold a seminar for the pupils of the school. The school authorities thought it was necessary to have this seminar because of the children’s growing habit of taking laws into their hands rather than reporting conflicts to the school authorities.
The seminar was organized by Caro Favoured Nursery and Primary School in partnership with The Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation through the Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution on Thursday 7th February 2019.
The head of the Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Tanwa Ashiru who anchored the seminar engaged the children in question and answer sessions, sought their opinions on various conflict scenarios and made them dramatize conflict situations and possible ways to resolve them. The session ended with a song they learnt from Tanwa which should constantly remind them to care for one another and be responsible to each other.
The aim of the seminar was to:
- Teach the children non-violent ways to resolve conflict.
- Build the children’s confidence and self-reliance so they can act correctly in a conflict situation.
- Equip children with the knowledge and skills they need to recognize and avoid conflict or report conflict issues to higher authorities other than taking laws into their hands.
- Maintain peace within their immediate environment.
